hi,

I goto Facebook everyday now, so, my status are updated more frequently there!

Going to China, arriving Shanghai on 4/7, flying to Nanning on 4/9, then taking a railroad trip, 2500 km, 26 hours, from Nanning to Beijing around 4/18,

visit Hangzhou's Zhejiang Univ, back to Shanghai visiting friends, before returning to U.S. on 4/30.

I bought a Nikon Coolpix s220 digital camera, so, after 5 trips to China relying on friends for photo's, i'll be able to take few my own;)

Please feel free and be generous to comment or suggest, so I can post here more before I move to FB totally.

12/19 drove to San Diego to meet up with an old friend, and drove back for college classmates reunion.
12/20, went polo horseback ridding in the morning, and met with friends for lunch and dinner near Hacienda Heights, where i lived for 9 months in 2003/4.
12/21, drove up to Cupertino for highschool classmates reunion, and stayed at my ex-roomate's place in Walnut Creek in SF Bay area.
12/22, visited Lawrence Hall of Science, UC Berkeley, on the hills near Walnut Creek, and saw the magnificant views of SF Bay.
12/23, drove back to L.A. , and had another highschool classmates' reunion dinner in Arcadia, and checked back in the hostel in Santa Monica.
12/24, had to give up a home party on x'mas eve in Huntington Beach, due to catching flu, don't want to spread germs. waiting for tomorrow morning flight back
to NH.
12/25, flying back out of L.A. at 9 a.m., arriving NH at 10 p.m.

Well, LAX was a huge mess, my luggage was on the original flights leaving at 9 a.m.; i missed due to long lines, leaving around 1 p.m., paid additional $75 to
secure a seat to D.C. Dulles, and then to Manchester, NH, only delayed  1 hr, so it wasn't  bad, and my bag was actually waiting for me in Manchester.

but, i got the bug/flu on the trip, i came down on my way driving up to SF.
: had to cancel my fu jen reunion in SF to save up enough strength to drive back to L.A.
: x'mas eve had to cancel home party at jimmy ma's home, so i could save up enough strength to fly back to NH on x'mas day.
: but over all the trip was a success ;) ;)
: i didnt' take the scenic route from SF to LA, because i had to get to e18's reunion in L.A. that evening in arcadia.
: i consulted my fu-jen classmate, yao wu er, he told me it should be taken without a hurry, best to take , is to stay ovrnight, to watch the sunset on the pacific side.
: so i may do that another time ;)

Tung Chee Hwa's talk @ Havard Kennedy School, 12/10/08

Attended ex-Executive Officer of Hong Kong after 1997, Tung Chee Hwa's  talk about his US-China Exchange Foundation and his views on US-China Relations at Harvard Kennedy School. Many young students from China mainland and Hong Kong asked many good questions, and Tung answered very
well. The talk and Q&A was very touching and hopefully helpful for US-China Relationships in the future.

On-line translation @Babson for EMBA Class study tour!

Babson asked me back again for EMBA Class study tour from Zhejiang Univ. of Hangzhou, China, on 11/13 and 11/14 this week, I did both afternoon on-site translation for Professor Jay Rao and John Edmund of Babson. Luckily I didn't have to do the morning sessions, so I could sit down and enjoy the lectures. I got to experience the morning traffic of Rte. 128 again, and lunches at Babson's Excutive Conference Center cafeteria was nice ;)

Sequential Translation for Babson College EMBA Class

Thanks to Prof. Gordon, he invited me to do sequential translator for his Babson College EMBA Class today.

Well, Prof. Gordon called me a week or so ago, and invited me to lunch at Babson on 10/15, and then asked if I was free in the morning.
I said yes, and then he asked if I could come to his Class, he's teaching EMBA class from China, he's gonna teach 2 case studies from his
book, Entrepreneurship 101, How to make your idea into money making machine, I said i'd be glad to.

So, this morning I fought the traffic early in the morning and  drove down to Babson College in Wellesley, the Executive Education Conference Center, Yukon Conference Room, and met the about 20 executives (students), and did the intrepreter job for Prof. Gordon.  He was very pleased and later told me we did a great job together, and
he wouldn't know what to do if I was not there!  More than one students came up to me and said they liked my translator job, and they also said they'd invite me and Prof. Gordon to ZeJiang Univ. in HangZhou, to teach someday ;) It was nice to hear they said that ;)

Harvard Coop on PRC's National Day!

Today, I went to Taubman Building, Wiener's Auditorium, at Harvard Kennedy School, for the People's Repulic of China's National day celebration seminar, there were two speakers from Harvard Kennedy School and one Chinese professor from MIT Sloan School of Management, each gave a presentation about
the Reform in China, started by Deng Xiao Ping 30 years ago.  It was my first time there in Harvard Kennedy School (for Politics and Governments), so it was quite exciting for me, the presentations were all good ;) Well, the audience are mostly young, bright, Harvard students, only one other American guy, VP of World Trade Center of Mass., I know who's about my age;)

After the seminar, I walked aroung Harvard Square a bit, very nice interesting place with many interesting stores, coffee shops, and restaurants. I ended up wandering into Harvard Coop, the bookstore, I felt young and adventurous again, and I found the text book for the following on WIDE World course.
I bought the text book, since it's very much connected with the course I am taking, Teaching for Understanding with Technology, along with a high liter, a pencil, a ringed notebook, and a binder , bergundy (red) color with Harvard as label on it. I felt like a college student again !

practice together. My objective is to help bringing WIDE World to Taiwan ;)

Hampton Beach Seafood Festival, 9/6/08

Pigged out at Hampton Beach Seafood Festival, last Saturday, it was cloudy, nice no sun burns, and the hurricane, Hanna, was coming brining
lots of rains, the firework at night was cancelled; we left early to go to Portsmouth, Peirce Island, and continued onto Kittery, Maine, to
Badger's Iseland Marina, to see our friend, Wayne, the marina's owner, he promised us a harbor cruise later in Fall once his boat gets a
new engine ;) We had a nice seafood dinner again at Ray's Restaurant again, before the pouring rain started.

Visited NYC/NJ over Labor Day long weekend!

Went NYC/NJ, visited my daughter, she took us to Brooklyn's Botanical Garden on Saturday and treated us with Sichuan Food for dinner.
On Sunday, she cooked us lunch, nice mexican food, then took us to Broadway Show, Mama Mia, which was so fantastic, I was in tears
laughing, making noise, over half of the show time, what a wonderful show!  After the show, I went to meet a new friend from Excutive Learning
Center and his wife from Wuhan and her girl friend from Wuhan too! We had huo guo, fire wok, at another Sichuan restaurant in New York
China town near the Brooklyn Bridge, had a great time !

Fu-Jen Univ. Reunion at Flushing, NYC on 7/27/08

On the way to Flushing, I visited the Esplanande south of World Financial Center next to World Trade Center, while looking
at the tallest building on the Jersey side, someone told me that building was built by Goldman Sachs for over one billion dollars,
it's a beautiful building, but it's empty because very rich people refused to move in , in fear of it becomes target of terrorists to attack, like
what happened on 9/11 to the World Trade Center.  I also visited the Trinity Church and St. Paul Church  on the way to the E train
station, Lots of tourists there.

Fu-Jen Reunion was quite a success, delegation for Fu-Jen Univ, led by the president, Li jian qiu, plus two vice-presidents, was
quite impressive.  Met many alumnus, look like our Physics-69 reunion will hold at Fu-Jen Univ. in Taiwan.  The place, food,
and performance were all superb !!! Looking forward for the next year's reunion ;)  Well, I did salsa and taught the basics to an alumni she's quite talented, unfortunately, i had to leave becuz my ride was leaving;)

Found out the Naval Yard was built around 1800, the oldest in the country, going on its 3 century in operation, many submarines were
built and lauched here. Also, the peace treaty for Russo-Japanese War was negotiated and signed here at Wenworth Hotel in
Portsmouth, hosted by President Roosevelt at 1905. Very interesting place!

Cancellation of my trip to Beijing for 6/22's Lancer's Parade !

Below is the e-mail I sent to the musice director for Londonderry High's Marching Band:
=============================================================================================================
Hi Andy,

From the latest itinerary I received from Julie Lee couple of days ago, I was disappointed to learn that Gaobeidian's performance/parade on 6/22 has been cancelled. I was even looking for hotel near Gaobeidian so I could go there conveniently.

After serious looking at the new itinerary and my travel plans, I've decided not to join your Follower's group in Beijing.

I do wish you and the Lancers have a safe and great trip in China!
Best,
Edwin E Ouyang

Attended NECINA's Annual Conference at Royal Sonesta on 5/10/08

Yesterday I attended New England Chinese Information and Networking Association's Annual Conference '08, held at Royal
Sonesta Hotel, Cambridge, Mass.Socialing with old friends and meeting new friends, nice party with no alcohol ;)
The keynotes given by Boston Power's Founder and CEO, Christina Lampe-Onnerud, was compelling, at the end, she said: "coming together is the begining, keeping together is progress, and working together is success!", certainly, she's a leader !  The dinner keynotes given by 3COM's CEO, Edgar Masri, was very inspirational, he shared with us his experience of forming a joined venture between 3COM and Hua Wei, the biggest networking company like Cisco, in China, again, another great leader !  I got to speak to both of them after and before their speeches, respectivley; hopefully, they would both accept my LinkedIn invite and be connected !

Tuck India Business Conference, Dartmouth College, 5/9/08

This is a return visit to Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire! I attended last year's Tuck India Business Conference, and visited Dartmouth for the 1st time, and
it was nice and enjoyable, so I came back again:)  My friend, Roy Hudson, came with me, so the almost 2 hours drive was pleasant from Nashua. India seems enjoy a
closer, amiable, and more trustful relationship with U.S.. I was impressed by the presentation given by the head of US-India Business Council, again; somehow India won his friendship and loyalty. The conference was well-organized by the Tuck Indian Students, the home-made Indian food for lunch was very tasty, I couldn't help and stuffed myself. The keynote at lunch, given by the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation, was interesting too, one remark made while taking about poverty and hunger
problem in India, was China doesn't have democracy, but China succeeded to feed their huge population of 1.3 billion people. The irony is with empty stomach, people want food first, are in no mood for democracy; however, Bush (US) , with his stomach fulled, always thinks other countries, should have democracy first, regardless of empty stomach. Perhaps, after experiencing empty stomach, Bush maybe able to relate, and turn around.  Below is the conference agenda, again, Tuck Business School Indian students really put out a nice conference, I hope their Chinese students should learn from them:

Boston Marathon on Patriots Day, 4/21/08

Took T from Alewife, got off at Hanes Auditorium, and walked onto Hereford St. near Boylston St. and watched 2008 Boston Marathon. It's 26.2 miles, started around 10 a.m. from somewhere out near route 128/InterState 95, passed Heartbreak Hill in Newton, and ended near Copley Square. There, I came up with the idea for the poster:

B2B  B2B
Boston Marathon 2 Beijing Olympic
B2B  B2B

to raise awareness and support of 2008 Beijing Olympic, but didn't get to make the poster ;( however, I put that slogan on all my instant messengers. I also offered my blank orange-color poster to a Canadian Lady, sitting next to me on the railing, to wave to get her boyfriend's attention, who's among the marathon runners. That was a nice thing to do ;)

Another unexpected nice thing happened to me was, after the Canadian Lady left, an old all-white-haired lady with a little about-8-years-old girl came, and the old lady was trying to put the little girl to stand on the rails to be
high enough to see the maraton runners. I offered to help, so the old lady let the girl sit in my lap and she held little girls' legs, and we watched the marathon together for over an hour. I felt like a grandpa;) The old lady made sure the little girl thanked me when they were ready to move on. It was a gorgeous sunny day, perfect for Marathon!

On the way back to Alwife on the T, I got aquainted with a Chinese marathon runner from Shanghai, had a real nice conversation ;) I gave him a ride home in lexington, since his wife with kids missed him at the end of Marathon, so he needed a ride to get home. Then, I went to lexington to see my friend who owns Yangtze River Restaurant, and watched
the ending of the Patriot's Day celebration at the Minuteman monument. I killed some time talking to my friend, and then I drove to MIT to do my Monday night cardio-vascular exercise - Salsa class, and afterward, went to BU Beijing Cafe to have dinner, Ma Po tofu kui can with hot-sour soup, before heading home ;)
